The tales of Petlepop are beloved among my family. They are a direct connection to my grandfather and his experiences growing up in South Eastern Alaska. He lived in a small town called Ketchikan, where story telling is a strong cultural tradition.
This book was created in efforts to preserve my grandfather’s story. I drew inspiration from the totem poles of Alaskan natives in which verbal stories and legends are preserved in physical object. The structure of the book is meant to resemble the nature and three-dimensional viewing of a totem pole when propped up and fanned into a ten-point star.
